Hi Everyone,
Well, after two or three cancellations to Santa Paula (SZP) because of
weather, we finally got a good Sunday morning and flew there.
For the April 27th Fly-in to Santa Paula (SZP) we had seven people in four
planes. They were: Dennis Cullum in an RV3 who flew out of CRQ, Gary Ghio &
Gary Kauffman in a Piper Arrow flying out of SEE, and Andy Silver & Mike
Gretton in a Comanche and Jim Newport and me in a Skymaster flew out of MYF.
San Diego area was IFR along the coast, so a couple planes filed IFR and
punch up through the goo. The tops were around 2,500 and once beyond
Oceanside and Fallbrook, it was basically just scattered clouds around
6-8,000'.
En route we did some talking on 123.45. The Comanche flew the LAX
corridor, the Piper Arrow came around the inland route from SEE, the
Skymaster also took the inland route, and the RV3 somehow flew VFR from CRQ,
which was IFR, and just about beat everyone to SZP. Everyone landed at SZP
within 15 minutes or so of each other. The Logsdon restaurant at SZP wasn't
crowded and we had no problem getting a table. We had a good time doing the
usual hangar flying over breakfast and finished off deciding on a
destination for the next Fly-In.
The next Fly-In will be to Rosamond Skypark (L00) on May 18th. That's the
weekend after Mother's Day. This place has a great Mexican buffet. It's in
the high desert, 18.5 nm on PMD's 334 radial. This may be the last desert
airport we go to until after summer. Chris will post L00 info on our web
site shortly. I don't think we'll need an alternate. If the high desert
isn't clear, nothing is. So mark your calendar for May 18th for a Fly-In to
Rosamond Skypark (L00).
For advance planning, the June Fly-In will be on the 22nd, the weekend
after Father's Day.
A couple people asked about room reservations for the Arlington (AWO)
Fly-In in July. All the info is on the attachments I sent out earlier this
month. Mid-June I'll send out another email re: AWO and we'll talk about it
on our June 22nd Fly-In.
Best of clear skies and tailwinds,
Tony Tex
