Subject: MAY FLY-IN #2
Hi Guys,

Well made our Fly-In to Rosamond (L00) on May 18. There was a grand total
of two planes and five people. Four of our group were out of town, one had a
broken plane and three non-instrumented rated pilots cancelled due to a
marine layer covering San Diego. So, under the circumstances, guess we were
lucky to get two planes.

About 9 we were "wheels up" from MYF.  Andy Silver, Mike Gretton and a
Navy Chief, a friend of Mikes, punched up through the goo in Andy's
Comanche, followed by Jim Newport and me in Jim's C-337. We were above the
marine layer by 3000'. That's the value of an instrument ticket. Then it was
clear skies from Palomar (CRQ) all the way to Rosamond.

At Rosamond, we taxied right up to the Golden Cantina Restaurant and
enjoyed a terrific Mexican Buffet Breakfast on the patio. It's one of those
places that you pay more in calories than money, but is it ever GOOD.  We
did the usual hangar flying for a couple hours before heading back with
clear skies all the way back home. Just another enjoyable Sunday morning fun
flight in beautiful Southern California. You gotta make the next one.

Andy sent me some pictures from L00 which I'll share with you. Mike said
he'll be sending some pictures too. Chris will put those on our website a
little later. For now, check the Mug Shots of people barely able to move
after the Mexican Buffet breakfast. Plus a picture of Jim's C337 taking off
from L00. If the vegetation behind the C337 in looks a bit spare... it is.

The next Fly-In will be on June 22 and we'll go to Camarillo (CMA). The
restaurant on the field is Waypoint Restaurant and it's great for three
reasons: 1) good food,  2) you can taxi right up to the restaurant, and 3)
it has a nice patio to enjoy breakfast/lunch. Perfect for this time of year.

You should make the June 22nd Fly-In, especially if you're going to
Arlington (AW0) in July. We'll discuss the AWO route, stops, room
reservations and possible meeting airports or fixes on the way up there.
I'll email that info before June 22nd so you review it before the June 22nd
Fly-In to CMA. Then, for those of you interested, a few of us plan to meet
at my house on July 1st  to review any changes for the AWO flight, sip some
suds and do a little hangar flying.

Hope to see you all on June 22 for our Camarillo (CMA) fun Fly-In.

Best of clear skies and tailwinds,

Tony Tex
