A FLY-IN TO THE SEATTLE AREA?
Hi Guys,

WOULD YOU LIKE TO JOIN US FOR THE NORTHWEST REGIONAL FLY-IN?   The Northwest Regional Fly-In held at Arlington Airport (AW0), 40 miles north of Seattle, is scheduled for July 9-13.  Arlington is the 3rd largest EAA Fly-In after Wisconsin's Oshkosh and Florida's Sun n' Fun. I've been fortunate enough to have flown to Oshkosh three times ('96, '98 & '02), Sun n' Fun once ('02), and Arlington three times ('97, '99 & '01). And I'm going to Arlington again this year for the fourth time. Isn't hard to tell which I like the best. See Arlington Fly-In: <http://www.nweaa.org>

The flight to AWO takes about 9-10 hours each way over panoramic views of rugged, snow topped majestic mountains, deep green river valleys and gorges, and some of the most beautiful shoreline and coastal towns on our Northwest coast.  Yes, compared to Oshkosh (1/3 further) and Sun n' Fun (twice as far), the flight to Arlington has more spectacular scenery. Arlington doesn't have the big name publicity of the other Fly-Ins, but it doesn't have the elbow jamming crowds either, and it does have enough airshows, aircraft displays and aviation booths with the latest toys to hold your attention for 4-5 days. Besides, as much as I love flying to these events, my max attention span is 2-3 full days for airshows, displays and booths .   Want to see the scenery I'm talking about? Chris Claborne has pictures of the awesome scenery from our last Arlington trip on the link below. Plus you should read his excellent narrative in the Captain's Log, which along with pictures, gives you a feel for the flight. Weather prevented us from flying over the coast on this trip.     It's not too early to start thinking about reserving cars and rooms (5 of 7 motels within 8 miles of AWO are booked up). However, I've already reserved the last four rooms at the same motel (1 mile from AWO) where we stayed at the last time, and a full size car.  Two of the four rooms I've reserved are taken. So two rooms, which can accommodate three persons, are available.

If you're interest in making this flight with pilots in our group, give me a call for more details, then schedule a plane for a July 8th departure and July 13th return. Remember, planes on weekends will quickly schedule up for summer vacations. Maybe we can pair you up with 1 or 2 pilots to share the flying and expenses, stay at the same motel and share the same car.

Do you know that less than 1% of the population has a pilot's certificate! Why not enjoy the benefits of your unique privilege by flying over one of the most scenic parts of our country to a neat Fly-In.

Best of clear skies and tailwinds, Tony Tex
