Subject: NOV FLY-IN UPDATE #1

Hi Guys,
Five planes and twelve people made the Nov 14 Fly-In to Chiriaco Summit
(L77) today.
Flying from SEE in a 337 were Robert, Jimmy, Dick & Don, and in a 172 were
Jeff & Jerry , and Mike in a Lancair.
Flying from MYF were Chris, Mike & Philip in a 172, and Bret and Tony in a
172.
It turned out to be a severe clear day were you could see forever. It got
a little bumpy over the rocks around Julian, over Borrego and on the east
and west side of Thermal. And we encountered 25-30 knot headwinds. But on
the bright side, we got more flight time in beautiful CAVU weather. We also
knew the landings would be interesting once we go to L77 because we heard
other pilots at Ocotillo and Thermal  saying, "I'm going around and heading
back home".
And it did become "interesting" near L77, especially on short final with a
15-20 knot wind from the north across runway 24. One of our planes did a "go
around" and headed home. Two others also made go arounds and came back
around again for a successful landing. It sure made for lively chatter
during out "hangar flying" session over breakfast. You know the stories
like, "There I was on short final, inverted, stall warning horn blaring,
hanging by the straps and then I rolled right side up 50 feet above the
runway and greased it in".
Bret Strain and Robert Werve were our "picture taking" guys at breakfast
this time. They'll get the pictures to our webmaster (Chris Claborne) who'll
post them on our website in the very near future on: http://tonytex.com/
Anyway, we had a great time and I believe everyone enjoyed a terrific day
with a good bunch of pilots. Before we scattered like a gaggle of geese for
home, we decided when and where the December Fly-In with be.
It'll be on Sun, Dec 12, to Mojave (MHV). Hey, maybe we'll get to see Burt
Rutan again as we did on our February Fly-In there.
Hope to see you all for the Dec Fly-In.

Best of clear skies and tailwinds,

Tony Tex
