Hi Guys,

Three planes and six people made the Fly-In to Brackett (POC) on Sunday,
June 19th. In spite of the forecast for a dreary, marine layer that is
common during June Gloom, it turned out to be a beautiful, "severe clear"
day in San Diego and even in the LA Basin.

Flying from SDM was Dennis an RV3, from SEE Jerry & Bret in a 172 and from
MYF were Jim, his daughter Jennifer and me.

Four pilots cancelled a couple days before departure thinking the forecast
would hold, as it had for the past four to five days. Sometimes it's tough
to second guess weather too early. Join the club. I too have cancelled plans
and planes the day before only to wake up the next day to blinding sunshine.
And of course the plane I cancelled was already scheduled by someone else.

At POC there was an antique airplane and car display and ground control
usually directed incoming planes to taxi toward the southeast side of the
restaurant for parking. But wouldn't you know it, Dennis pulled his RV3 into
the display area, right in front of the restaurant. And so did Jerry & Bret
in the 172.

The restaurant was packed with a 45 minute waiting list. Seems that Father's
Day is the busiest time of the year for this airport restaurant. And
according to the waitress, most were non-pilots. Non-pilots packing into an
airport restaurant! That's sacrilegious.

During our wait, where it seemed I was the only one grumbling, Bret took
some pictures of us patiently sitting and waiting and of the antique cars
and planes. He'll get the pics to our webmaster Chris and he'll post them on
our website in the near future.

Of course ordering and waiting for breakfast turned out to be another
patience test. But after waiting to get seated, we were conditioned to
waiting and it wasn't bad. We did our usual "hangar flying" and solved the
world's problems over breakfast and had a great view of the runway and all
the great sounding airplane noises. In spite of the waiting, the view was
great and the breakfast pretty good.

A good time was had by all, and the beautiful, severe clear flying were
conditions were terrific.

Next Fly-In is on July 17th to Big Bear (L35).

Best of clear skies and tailwinds,

Tony Tex
