Hi Guys,

Three planes and eight people made our Group's Fly-In to Camarillo (CMA) on
Sun, Sep 18th.

Flying out of SEE was Mike, Jerry, Jeff & Ryan in a Skyhawk, and flying out
of MYF was Jim in his Skymaster, and Chris, Matt & myself in a Cardinal RG.

SEE was VFR and the Skyhawk was in the clear all the way over the inland
route to CMA.

But MYF was 6 and 700 and we got an IFR clearance through the thin coastal
marine layer and were on top by 2000'. The top of the marine layer was
2000-2700' over our coastal route all the way to LAX where it went scattered
and then cleared just north of Santa Monica (SMO).

We all landed at CMA within 15 minutes of each other and got two tables on
the restaurant patio with a nice view of the runway traffic. Over breakfast
we watched some unusual planes flying in and out of CMA and we did the usual
"I was inverted on short final" hangar flying stories, solved the world's
problems and decided on when and where to go for the Oct Fly-In.

After breakfast we spent an hour or so walking around and visited open
hangars that had interesting planes in them. In the CAF's hangar and saw
some refurbished WWII planes, including two Zeros. In personal hangars we
saw some interesting experimental planes, i.e., an oversized lancair with a
huge turbo engine.

We left around 1330 just as the marine layer was creeping back over CMA, but
it stayed clear all the way back to San Diego.

I believe the only pictures were taken by Chris as we flew alongside the
Skymaster on the way back. He'll post them on the website.

Once again, it was a good Fly-In with a fun flight, good hangar flying over
breakfast and a great time seeing some old war birds and experimental
planes.

On the next Fly-In, have Chris tell you what looked like a "winged
wheelchair" that was taxiing along at a snail's pace in front of us at CMA.

The next Fly-In will be to General Fox Field (WJF) on Sun, Oct 16th. Don't
forget to RESERVE A PLANE!

Best of clear skies and tailwinds,

Tony Tex
