Hi Guys,

We had a great Fly-In with fantastic weather.

Seven planes with fourteen people from four different airports made the
Fly-In on Sun, Jan 22nd to the "International Airport" of Calexico (CXL). In
this case, the term "International Airport" surely doesn't imply the
expected large, metropolitan airport. However, CXL is a nice airport to fly
into for breakfast without the hassle of a tower juggling you in the traffic
pattern as is typical of a "real" International airport.

Flying from MYF in a 182 were Gary Ghio & Gary Kauffman; in a Bonanza were
Bob Polich, Peter Slusser & Chris Maier; in a 177RG were Chris Claborne &
Mike Schmied. Flying from SDM in a RV3 was Dennis. Flying from RNM in a 210
were Bert & Russ Bade. Flying from SEE in a Lancair was Mike Gretton; and in
a 172 were Bret Strain, Jerry Jackson & Tony Tex.

In spite of the forecast calling for gusty winds and turbulence over our
mountains to the East, the air was smooth as silk and the weather CAVU all
the way to CXL. It was an awesome day and you could see forever as only
southern California can have. Six planes arrived at CXL at about the same
time and the 182 landed about 20 minutes later.

At Rosa's Plane Food Restaurant we "hangar flew" for an hour and a half
before, during and after breakfast about flying, aircraft design, present
day planes and new planes coming out or on the drawing boards. Chris C, the
Bades and Bob took pictures during breakfast. I hope Chris C gets the
picture of Gary G getting ready to chow down a monstrous steak. As soon as
Chris C gets your pictures, he'll post them on our website.

The food at Rosa's Plane Food Restaurant was good. But they did not live up
to their reputation of having bad service. The service was surprisingly
good, especially since we had fourteen people crowded into two or three
tables. Chris C's knowledge of Spanish was very helpful when we ordered
meals.

Around 1030-1100 everyone scattered and flew back to their own airports,
except Chris C and Mike S, who flew to AZ to see a friend. En route to San
Diego the forecasted winds kicked up a little and we encountered a little
lumpy air, but nothing to write home about. Otherwise the weather was the
usual southern California CAVU.

It was a good Fly-In on a great day with lots of enjoyable pilot
camaraderie. That's what Fly-Ins are all about.

Next Fly-In will be on Sun, Feb 19th to Santa Paula (SZP). You have a whole
month to schedule a plane and set up a "business appointment", or other good
reason, to be gone that day.

Best of clear skies and tailwinds,

Tony Tex
