Hi Guys,

After two cancellations we finally got some decent weather and flew to
Santa Paula (SZP). As it was, we squeezed the Fly-In in between two weather
systems. The weather Buddha really gave us a good day for our Fly-In and no
IFR .

Eight planes and eighteen people from SDM, SEE and MYF airports made the
April 2nd Fly-In to SZP.

Dennis Cullum in a RV3; Jeff & Ryan Cary and Jerry Jackson in a 172; Michael
Gretton in a Lancair; Bert & KC Bade in a Great Lakes; Robert Werve, Tony
Pearse & Frank Garza in a Skymaster; David & Betty Kennedy in a Skymaster;
Chris & Juan Claborne and Scott & Karl Brylow in a 177RG; and Jim Newport &
Tony Tex in a Skymaster.

The pattern at SZP was very busy with some planes entering on a left
downwind and others on a right downwind for runway 4. Lots of controversy on
which downwind was correct. Not to beat a dead horse, but it involves safety
so I'll tell you what I found out. After talking to two flight schools and
three pilots based at SZP, this is what I came up with.

At SZP, all traffic patterns are made on the south side of the airport. The
only time you cross over the city at 1500' is when you're coming from the
North. If landing on 22, fly Westbound over the city at 1500', make two left
turns into a left downwind. If landing on 4, fly Eastbound over the city at
1500', make two right turns into a right downwind for rwy 4. Western Guide
also shows patterns on the south side. 'Nuff said on that.

At Logsdon restaurant they saved us a three tables and 14 seats as I
reserved by phone before leaving MYF. However, some folks didn't info me
they were coming. Fortunately we were able to round up another table and
additional seats and it worked out okay.

We had a good time hangar flying on everything from our flight up there, to
the pattern and anything else regarding aviation. There were antique cars on
display near the restaurant and many hangars that were open for the casual
visitor to wander through and view antique airplanes. At breakfast, the
majority of pilots agreed our next Fly-In would be on Sun, May 21st to
Flabob (RIR).

A good time was had by all.

Chris has posted his pictures of us a breakfast and some other things on the
website. He's waiting for more pictures from you guys. I think Frank, who
flew with Werve, took pictures too.

Best of clear skies and tailwinds,

Tony Tex
