Hello Everyone,

On Sun, Oct 21st, when the winds were blowing like crazy at our Rosamond
Fly-In destination, and the severe turbulence over the rocks north of LA,
both of which caused cancellation of our flights there, our flight to our
alternate of French Valley (F70) had a good turn out and we had a good time.

Eleven people in six planes made the Fly-In. Flying from SDM Dennis Cullum
in an RV-3. Flying from SEE Dick Grothen in a 182;  Dave Kennedy & John
Hammerstrand in a C337; and Robert Werve & Wayne Oehler in a C337. Flying
from MYF Michael Schmied, Chris Maier & Michael Maier in a 172RG and Jim
Newport & Tony Tex in a C337.

The morning marine layer burned off by 0800. It wasn't quite as clear as
forecast and there was some haze from the marine layer or dust, or maybe a
little of both. However, the winds were just starting to kick up. Planes
that flew the coastal route had only a few light bumps. But planes that flew
inland over Ramona experienced a bit more turbulence. Ramona was getting
easterly winds gusting to 20 knots. Jeff Cary's little passengers got a
little "green around the gills" and he returned to SEE. Hopefully the kids
didn't "burp on" the instrument panel.

Doc Kennedy was the first one to F70 and got a table and chairs set up in
the restaurant patio for everyone. The mild temperature and calm winds in
the patio made it a perfect setting for an out door breakfast.

As usual, over the "breakfast hangar flying" session we did lots of
aviation and general chatter, solved most of the world problems, and decided
our next Fly-In would be another attempt to the great Mexican buffet in
Rosamond (L00) on Nov 18th.  Dennis Cullum got a picture of us at breakfast
and will forward it to Chris Claborne for our website.

We all left F70 before the winds really kicked up and most planes returned
to San Diego area on the coastal route.  I don't have to tell you how strong
the winds got up to in the afternoon. Just listen to the news.

It was a good turn out for an alternate airport in spite of the forecast
for strong winds and we had a great time.

Get your planes reserved or ready for the Rosamond Fly-In on Nov 18th.

Best of clear skies and tailwinds,

Tony Tex
