Hello Everyone,

The Santa Paula (SZP) Fly-In on 9/28 was hampered, at least at Montgomery
(MYF), by a 100' ceil and 1/8 vis.

Another pilot and I felt we didn't want to go out IFR in the event the
engine in the rented Cherokee 180's burped after takeoff making it difficult
to return to the field safely. So we decided it was a No-Go. At 0945 the
marine layer burner off and the ceiling lifted to 900' and vis increased to
5 mile. But by then we were already having breakfast at a restaurant near
the MYF. Shortly after that it was CAVU.

However, six people in two planes did fly out earlier, around 0800-0830,
and meet at Logsdon restaurant at SZP.

From MYF Don Griffith and Petee Griffith departed IFR in their C-210.

Gillespie was CAVU and Robert Werve, Will Becker, Jeff Cary & Jerry
Jackson flew out VFR in Robert's 337.

I hear the latter flight was "on top" at 10500 over LAX Bravo Airspace and
then made a rapid descent to get into Santa Paula.

Werve took pictures and will send them to Chris Claborne (our webmaster)
for posting.

Next Fly-In is to Flabob (RIR) on Oct 26th. More info on RIR later.

Best of clear skies and tailwinds,

Tony Tex
